Belize

On Tuesday we were ported in Belize. I had thought Belize was a part of Mexico - but our guide promptly put any illusions to that thought to rest. Belize is a really young nation, kind of like the Bahamas - and English - like the Bahamas. They "won" thier independance peacefully and are working at making a great county of thier own. Right now, tourism is the biggest industry in Belize - as such - we were treated like kings and queens. Every one was patient with our rubbernecking and endless stupid questions!! And the road to the zoo - beyond the sleeping giants - and beyond the jungle - the end of that road was in Guatamala - Just a little history - for those of you who could definately care less.....LOL I didn't get up this morning in time to go "work out" but we were on the "tenders" to go the 6 mile trip to shore by 9 am. Sharen and Jack again chose a real sporty "excursion" and you will have to wait for her to write about it at Rea's Place and we (of course) did an airconditioned bus ride to the Zoo and City Tour. One thing that was real noticable about Belize - the Police there carry machine guns. Even sitting in the shade - there is a machine gun (or something of that type) propped right up next to them.

I don't know for sure which road we went on - most probably the Northern highway - to to Zoo. It was a great trip to an outdoor, completely habitat - stle zoo. We had cages that we waked thru to see the animals. They had about everything!! The howling monkeys, otters, ocelots, jaguars (3 kinds) and the birds - parrots and macaws - were well worth the trip. The excursion service provided us with ice cold water (it was in the 90's) and gave us time to shop in the little gift shop.

Then back to the ship for yet another fancy dinner another show, a little time at the Casino and our freshly turned down bed.
